Not sure what a fretless bass is? It's quite complicated, so this explanation might take a while. Ok, here we go. It's a bass guitar without frets.
Yup, that's it! The fretless bass operates exactly the same way as a traditional bass, but without any frets to act as the end point for each string. It's most common among Jazz, Funk and R&B musicians. To play this instrument , you pretty much have to be a bass guitar-God, since playing any sort of fretless instrument usually requires a ton of training and natural memorization of where each note is.
